Requests for routine medical or dental/optical care can also be initiated by our Boarding Students to the Dean of Resident Students or the School Nurse so that necessary communication with parent(s)/guardian(s) can be made.
Routine Medical Appointments Scheduled during the school day should be avoided, if possible. If a DAY or BOARDING student is to miss all or part of a school day due to a routine medical appointment, please call the Dean of Student Affairs at 248.755.6376 before 7:30 am that day.
The Office of Dean of Students Publishes (hard-copy and electronic) a DAILY ATENDANCE list each school day as does the School Nurse via electronic copy to faculty and administrative email accounts.
All records pertaining to both Health and Attendance are reviewed, assessed and cross-referenced daily to remain in compliance and to keep all parties informed of any emerging communicable or other health-related issues within the student and adult populations here on campus.
R 400.4160(b) (Health Screening)
The responsibility for the thorough health screening of our student population on campus is a two-step, two-fold system of checks and balances maintained and coordinated first by the Admissions Department and secondly, and ultimately, by the School Nurse.
The Admissions Department at St. Mary's Prep requires completion of the MEDICAL HISTORY and IMMUNIZATION RECORD as included in the Registration/Admissions materials packet. Circumstances whereby a student is not cleared by the initial review and screening by the school nurse are addressed immediately, and if an immunization breach is judged to have occurred, the School Nurse will move immediately to have the student removed from campus until the situation is resolved to school, state and county satisfaction.
R 400.4160(c) (Health Records)
The Health Records of every registered/enrolled student at St. Mary's are secured, reviewed/assessed and maintained as the sole responsibility of and by the School Nurse.
