Greetings from Orchard Lake St. Mary’s Prep Boarding Program! Another Academic Year is almost over and I cannot believe this is 16th year for me at Orchard Lake. First of all, I would like to take this opportunity and welcome two new dorm students to our boarding program Shuyu (Mark) Wang and Danyang (Chris) Jiang that came to Orchard Lake St. Mary’s Prep in January 2017. In addition, this year we had quite of few potential domestic as well international students interesting in our school and our boarding program; We had significantly more overnight shadow visitors than previous years. I am looking forward seeing and working with them in fall 2017 as my dorm students. Furthermore, this February 2017 I have been asked to go to China again to meet with potential, current, and past parents, discus promotional strategies for Orchard Lake St. Mary’ Preparatory, exchanging views about the Chinese student market, and represent Orchard Lake St. Mary’ Preparatory internationally. Moreover, we managed to organize big meeting in Beijing with many of our current parents. Parents were extremely grateful for our visits.
Eleven students graduated this academic year 2016/17 from our boarding program and I would like to congratulate to all of our senior students for their academic achievement, passion, commitment, and hard work here at Orchard Lake St. Mary’s Prep. I am very proud all of them. Our senior students already have been accepted and still waiting by best universities in the United States.
In the 5th marking period of the 2016/2017 academic school year, the dorm students did a great job; 15 students made the Dorm’s Dean List (above 3.70) and the overall GPA in the boarding program for the 5th marking period was almost 3.27. One of our dorm students even had perfect GPA in 5th marking period of 4.30.
Honors Convocation 2017 was very special for me because this year we introduced new Dorm Award called Timothy Teklinski Award, which recognizes a student who has taken advantage of the various opportunities that the dormitory brings to our campus and student body. The winner has made a special effort to maximize his time at OLSM through service/friendship to the boarding program/students. This award is in memory of Tim Teklinski, a 2015 Prep graduate and boarding student who was called to eternal rest in 2016. In addition, we managed to create special fund in Memory of Our Timothy Teklinski. Furthermore, it was my honor to grant the Dean of Resident Students Award to George Stozenfeld, the Dorm Ambassador Award to Yixiang (John) Wu, and Timothy Teklinski Award to Renzo Garza Motta. All three students are true examples of our Boarding Programs’ objective and mission: to develop the residents into men, men of character, integrity, and self-discipline. All 3 students served as a Student Assistant Resident Advisor and they were a true asset to our school and as well our Boarding Program. I wish them well and many continuing achievements they will be always welcome to Orchard Lake St. Mary’s Preparatory.
This year we provided our students with plenty of excitement. Our dorm students had opportunity to visit following: Easter break - Fort Lauderdale Florida with Robin Goddard, Cedar Point, Henry Ford museum, Detroit Institute of Arts, Detroit Auto Show, Detroit Pistons’ games, Ski Trip – Alpine Valley, Zap Zone laser tag, SportNFun go kart, Bungie Jumping, Air Time Trampoline/Game Park, Rock Claiming with International Students Advisor, Airbus Haunted House, local restaurants, local movie theaters, St. Mary’s sports games, and Jazz Band performance. In addition, students visit local shopping centers on a weekly/monthly basis such as Somerset, Twelve Oaks, Great Lakes Crossing, Wal-Mart, Best Buy, ethnic food stores, Haircut Solons, Local Banks, coffee shops, est. Also, we have our annual dorm tournaments in ping pong, pool table billiard.
